Yuletide 2018 Letter
Dear Yuletide Writer,
First of all, thank you so much for writing for me! I’m very excited to be doing Yuletide again this year. I really love all of these fandoms and characters I’m requesting, so I’m sure I’ll like anything you write for any of them!
If you’re the journal stalking type, my previous exchange letters can be found here and here, my AO3 account is here, and my tumblr is here. Other than that, I don’t have much of an online presence, but I will try to give you everything you need to know right here.
General Likes/Dislikes
Likes: A strong sense of character and character relationships. Characters who know each other better than anyone else, whether they are friends, lovers, colleagues, enemies, or any combination of the above. Trust and loyalty. Competence. Intimate body language. People who have no sense of personal space with each other. Outsider POVs. Interweaving plots. Slice of life. Roadtrips. Mission fic. Future fic. Canon divergence AUs. Supernatural/fantasy/______punk/in space! AUs. Backstory. Interesting worldbuilding details. Undercover as a couple. Friends to lovers. Developing relationships. Culture clashes. People who are bad at communicating finally managing it.
Dislikes: Non-canon permanent major character death. Explicit, onscreen non-con. Extreme underage. Parent-child incest. Unrequested crossovers. ‘Modern mundane’/high school/coffee shop AUs. Love triangles where everyone acts immature and no one communicates. First person POV, unless the original canon is in first person or if it’s an in-universe letter or article or something. Creepily invested matchmaker friends. Anything A/B/O, dom/sub world, soulmates, or soulbonds.

Lackadaisy - Ivy Pepper, Viktor Vasko
Ivy and Viktor have my favorite relationship in the comic. Big, strong, curmudgeonly characters who have a not-so-secret soft spot for small, sweet, perky characters are a weakness of mine. I love that he can be murderously protective of her, but she also has a clear power over him, to the point where others will bring Ivy along as a shield if they think Viktor might be unhappy with them. I love how Ivy reacts to Viktor being in danger by being aggressively cheerful and unwilling to let him mope alone, while Viktor reacts to Ivy being in danger by being an asshole and trying to drive her away – and neither of them quite understands what the other is doing and they just wind up arguing. You can do just about anything with them and I’ll be happy. It can be totally platonic, it can be romantic, it can be anywhere in-between. (Yes, I do ship it, but I know that age gap is a deal-breaker for some, so write whatever makes you comfortable. I genuinely love the relationship in any form.)
Prompt Ideas: Maybe give some backstory on how they first met and developed the relationship they have in the comic’s timeline. Maybe show where they wind up later down the line, after Prohibtion ends (you know, assuming both survive the events of the comic). They were a bit on the outs last time we saw them, maybe show them working through that and reconciling. Or show Ivy dealing with all the new information she’s learned about Viktor recently. Ivy’s starting to get a bit more involved in the more dangerous and illicit parts of the Lackadaisy’s operation – could Viktor ever bring himself to actually work with her or train her in the ways of the business? Or maybe something terrible happens to everyone else around them and they wind up doing their own cat people version of the movie Léon.
Leviathan - Nora Barlow, Ernst Volger
I just recently reread this series, and I remembered how much I loved the sneaky little alliance formed between Dr. Barlow and Count Volger. They’re both very clever and suspicious and even ruthless when they need to be, and they clearly immediately recognize these traits in each other. I love how that recognition goes from wariness to grudging respect to cooperation and how they’re obviously genuinely fond of each other by the end of the series. I also love how everyone who knows them is slightly terrified by the idea of them working together. I definitely ship it, but I’d be just as happy with more of their relationship as it is in canon.
Prompt Ideas: I’d really just like to see more of them interacting, since most of it was off-page in canon. How did they first settle into their information trading alliance? Who approached who with the idea? What kinds of interesting conversations and political debates did they have while the kids were off with their revolutions and interpersonal dramas and such? How did their opinions about each other change across the series? Or maybe something post-canon, with Volger settling into his new life and Barlow settling into her old one, now with many fun new complications, including each other. How involved in the Dr. Barlow’s Zoological Society does Volger actually become? Does Barlow’s loris start to bond with Volger as they get closer, and just how does he feel about that? Or maybe just some more drunken – sorry, fortified – dances at fancy parties.
Psychonauts - Milla Vodello, Sasha Nein
I have requested Superstar Psychonauts Sasha Nein and Milla Vodello for this fandom. They don’t actually have a lot of direct interaction in the game itself, but I love the implied relationship between the two. They are psychic secret agent partners! They go on ridiculous missions together and fight crime - psychic crime! One of these missions involved being undercover in elaborate costumes at a fancy party! They have had at least one clichéd instance of falling down and landing on top of each other in a ~romantic~ pose! I eat this stuff up with a spoon. Make it as shippy or as gen as you want and feel free to include any other characters as long as the focus is on their relationship.
Prompt Ideas: We see some tragic history in both Sasha and Milla’s memory vaults, but what happens between those events and the start of the game? How did they come to join the Psychonauts and become partners? How did they start teaching at the summer camp? When did they start running secret missions for Agent Cruller? What’s an average day like for them when they’re not teaching psychic children, or being kidnapped and having their brains removed, or rescuing their leader from a creepy underwater lair? What are the Psychonauts headquarters like? How do they relate to their coworkers? What kind of lives do they have outside of work? I would also totally be down for some mission fic, either pre-canon or in the future.
